In an ideal world, we'd all have cushy, highly paid jobs โ€” but the best-paid roles out there depend on where in the country you live.

Using government data, Career.io mapped the jobs with the highest average salaries in each state, relative to the national average wage for those occupations.

Each of the country's states has at least one job with a salary at least 25 percent higher than that job's national average.

The biggest local wage premium overall is found in Wisconsin, where gambling and sports book writers and runners make 216.19 percent more than the average American in that role.

New Yorkers working as crane and tower operators are paid around 109 percent more than the occupation's national average, while California's craft artists are paid 89.06 percent above the average.
