Using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's categorization of excessive drinking and data from County Health Rankings And Roadmaps, IntoxiStates.com created an interactive map showing a county-wide breakdown of American drinking habits.

Darker shades represent counties with a higher percentage of excessive drinkers, which the CDC classifies as more than eight or 15 drinks per week, for women and men respectively.

America's booziest county is Gallatin County in Montana, where over a quarter (26.8 percent) of residents are excessive drinkers. Among coastal cities, on the West, California counties Sonoma (20.84 percent) and San Diego (20.6 percent) ranked similarly with New York state toppers Saratoga (21.37 percent) and Jefferson (21.27 percent).

More than every one in four Wisconsin (25.29 percent) residents are excessive drinkers, the highest average among states, while Utah (an average 12 percent of the population are excessive drinkers) and its namesake county (9.04 percent) ranked the lowest.
